Ontario Open
Event Branding
Objective
Design and develop a logo for the Ontario Open, a PGA Tour Canada event sponsored by Sotheby’s International Realty Canada.

Challenge
How do you highlight the Sotheby’s International Realty Canada brand as the authority of luxury real estate services, while also displaying a memorable graphic to promote the golf tournament? The approved design needed to appear next to both Sotheby’s International Realty Canada and PGA Tour Canada branding. This meant a lot of words, styles and graphic elements to compete with.
Solution
Keeping the tournament logo sleek, desirable, and on-brand was a top priority as I developed the concepts for this project. A thin weight of Sotheby’s brand font created visual cohesion but didn’t steal the spotlight from their corporate branding. The integration of a flag pole into the design created visual continuity with PGA Tour Canada's logo of a golfer swinging a club. The flag represented a final destination, victory, and goal – not unlike the aspirational sentiments associated with homes represented by the Sotheby’s International Realty Canada brand.

Concept sketches ideate through options for event logo. Some concepts that were explored include integrating a tee, ball, club, and flag into the design.

Integrating the flag pole into the letterform allows for a more streamlined visual. Sotheby's brand font is paired with a neutral sans serif for "Ontario", which was selected for its circular "o" to reference golf balls.

Selecting a serif font for "Open" complements the Sotheby's International Realty brand, creating a seamless visual continuity  between the corporate sponsor and tournament identity.

PGA Tour Canada's logo features a golfer taking a swing, so it was a natural progression to provide an event logo that brought the viewer to the flag pole – a golfer's finish line.
